On 24 September 2026, the Safe, Swift, and Sustainable Reconstruction of Ukraine (S3) project will hold its final event at Imperial College London, presenting the project’s results and practical approaches to using concrete from war-related debris in Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Funded by UK International Development through the UK Government’s Innovate Ukraine programme, S3 brings together academic partners from Ukraine and the UK, and the Netherlands industry partners, and practitioners working on the ground. The project focuses on developing knowledge and practical solutions for the high-value upcycling of concrete from war-related debris and its use in greener reconstruction.
The event will present the project’s main achievements, research findings, and practical outputs. Partners and invited participants will also discuss lessons from the project, exchange knowledge, and explore how the work can be taken forward through future collaboration.
For ReThink, S3 demonstrates how circular approaches can be applied directly to reconstruction, turning concrete from damaged and destroyed buildings into a resource for new construction.
